Description

Whip up this easy & flavorful Korean Ground Beef Bowl in just 20 minutes! A perfect mix of sweet, savory, and spicy—great for a quick, tasty meal!

Ingredients

For the Beef:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)

For the Bowl:

  • 2 cups cooked white rice (or brown rice, cauliflower rice for a low-carb option)
  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots
  • 1/2 cup thinly sliced cucumbers
  • 1 fried egg (optional, but highly recommended!)

Instructions

Step 1 – Preparation

  1. Cook the rice according to package instructions and set aside.
  2. Prepare the ingredients by mincing the garlic, grating the ginger, and chopping the green onions.

Step 2 – Cooking Process

  1. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add sesame oil.
  2. Cook the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula, until browned (about 5-7 minutes).
  3. Add garlic and ginger and stir for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Mix in the sauce: Add soy sauce, brown sugar, and red pepper flakes. Stir well and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until the beef absorbs the flavors.
  5. Stir in the green onions, then remove from heat.

Step 3 – Final Touch & Serving

  1. Assemble the bowls: Add a portion of rice to a bowl, then top with the Korean ground beef.
  2. Add fresh toppings: Arrange shredded carrots, sliced cucumbers, and a fried egg on top.
  3. Sprinkle sesame seeds for an extra crunch and nutty flavor.
  4. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef to prevent excess grease.
  • Don’t overcook the garlic and ginger – they should be fragrant, not burnt.
  • Adjust spice levels by adding more or less red pepper flakes.
  • For extra umami, add a teaspoon of fish sauce or oyster sauce.
  • Make it ahead! The beef mixture keeps well in the fridge for up to 4 days.
