Ingredients

For the Casserole:

  • 1 1/2 lbs steak (sirloin, ribeye, or flank), cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 4 cups russet potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Slow Cooker

  • Lightly grease the inside of your slow cooker to prevent sticking.

Step 2: Brown the Steak

  • Warm olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steak pieces and sear for 2-3 minutes until browned on all sides. This helps lock in flavor.

Step 3: Layer the Ingredients

  • Place half of the sliced potatoes at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  • Sprinkle half of the diced onions, garlic, and seasonings over the potatoes.
  • Add half of the steak pieces and top with 3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, onions, seasonings, steak, and cheese.

Step 4: Add the Liquid

  • In a small bowl, mix heavy cream, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour this mixture evenly over the ingredients in the slow cooker.

Step 5: Cook to Perfection

  • Cover and cook on low for 6-7 hours or on high for 3-4 hours until the potatoes soften and the steak remains juicy.
